  • Save The Date - Finance Fair May 29th

    Academy of Finance students would like to invite community members to a Finance Fair on May 29, 2013 from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM in the Barker Central School, Jr. High Gymnasium. This program is hosted by 9th grade students of the Principles of Finance classes and is open to all students, staff, community members and business partners.

    Presentation topics include: Budgets, SMART Goals, Credit, Debt, Credit Reports, Insurance, Credit Cards, Loans, Cash Flow, and Financial Job Skills.

  • Finance Fair a Success

    By all accounts the Finance Fair held at Barker Central School District was a success.  Well over 100 people attended the event that was held on January 9, 2012 in the B.C.S. Jr./Sr. High Cafeteria.   The response from the community was overwhelmingly positive.  Comments from attendees include: 
    "It was great having the opportunity to see the students at your Finance Academy last week. How impressive they all were. Your School, Administration, Teachers, and Students should be proud of the accomplishments you all have achieved."
     
    "My wife was most impressed (and it takes a lot to impress her) with last night's Finance Fair. My compliments to those that have this program up and running.  I am looking forward to the future."
     
    The program, which was hosted by 9th grade students of the Principles of Finance classes,  Presented topics that included: Budgets, SMART Goals, Credit, Debt, Credit Reports, Insurance, Credit Cards, Loans, Cash Flow, and Financial Job Skills.

    Students researched and prepared presentations on their specific topics, as well as discussing the fine points of their topics with staff, community members and business partners.  They also applied the lessons they have been learning in class about the importance of proper dress and personal presentation.  Jr./Sr. High School Principal Barbara Converso states, "    I was most impressed with the "professionalism" displayed by the students."   Please enjoy the photo gallery of the event:

  • Barker N.A.F. - First to Receive Certification

    Congratulations to the Advisory Board and Design Team of the Barker National Academy of Finance for a job well done!  The Barker Academy is the first of 80 academies currently in their Year of Planning for the 2012 - 2013 school year to receive certification from the National Academy foundation!  Well Done!

  • Design Team/Staff/Advisory Board Meeting with NAF Representative

    Members of the National Academy of Finance at Barker Design Team meet with Ms. Maria Alluto, the Academy Director for the National Academy Foundation on Monday, March 19th for a work session.  This meeting was followed up with a presentation to the staff, as well as a meeting with the Barker National Academy of  Finance Advisory Board at 4 PM this afternoon.

  • Parent Meeting Update

    On Wednesday evening February 29, 2012, Mrs. Lakeman presented her annual information to 8th grade parents concerning High School Planning and NYS high school requirements. This year included information about the opportunity students will have beginning next year to be part of our Academy of Finance. A Power Point presentation (in .pdf format) that has been shown to students and staff was presented to the parents about NAF and the developing Academy of Finance opportunity for Barker students. Parents were informed about the Academy Launch on May 1st and some showed an interest in attending and as potential business partners.
