Veterans Exemption Public Hearing
Description
The Barker Board of Education is considering a Veterans Exemption for veterans that reside in the Barker Central School District. If an exemption is to be granted, a resolution must be adopted by the Barker Board of Education prior to March 1, 2015.
A veteran that qualifies for the full exemption at the lowest level (Level 1) would see a tax savings of approximately $480.30 on a home assessed for $100,000. For a non-veteran, this would result in an increase of approximately $13.00 for a $100,000 home. On that same $100,000 home, a full exemption at Level 2 would result in a total savings of approximately $720.45 for a veteran and a total increase of $19.00 for a non-veteran. The third example (Level 3) would result in an estimated tax savings of $960.00 for a veteran and an increase of $26.00 to a non-veteran.
The Board must choose if they will offer an exemption and at which level. There are multiple levels to choose from. Some examples can be seen in the table below:
